Gavin Newsom trolls DeSantis over flailing 2024 bid in hostile Fox News debate

During a debate hosted by Fox News on Thursday night, California governor Gavin Newsom took a shot at opponent Florida governor Ron DeSantis’s 2024 presidential campaign, telling viewers that “neither of us will be the nominee for our party in 2024.”

According to a 538 average of Republican presidential polls, Donald Trump has 60 per cent support from GOP voters, nearly six times that of his nearest rival, Mr DeSantis, whose support has declined precipitiously since the beginning of the year.

The Fox debate, framed by host Sean Hannity as the “Great Red vs Blue State debate,” at times felt like a quasi-presidential debate.

Mr DeSantis hammered the California leader as practically a third member of the Biden White House, while Mr Newsom painted the Florida governor as a secret moderate corrupted by the Trumpian “fringe” of the GOP.

“What California represents is the Biden-Harris agenda on steroids,” the Florida Republican said at one point. “They would love nothing more than to get four more years to take the California model national.”

Mr DeSantis criticised California for high gas prices, higher top tax rates than Florida, and for aggressively shutting down public institutions like schools during the beginning of the pandemic.

He also alleged that the Democratic agenda regarding the US-Mexico border has allowed fentanyl to spread across the US.

“This is the vision of Biden-Harris-Newsom,” Mr DeSantis said. “Open borders. Americans will continue to suffer.”

Mr Newsom, meanwhile, tore into the Florida leader for his controversial 2022 ploy to round up border-crossers and send them to liberal jurisdictions in California and Massachusetts under misleading pretenses.

“You are trolling folks and trying to find migrants to play political games so you can get some news and attention so you can out-Trump Trump,” Mr Newson said. “By the way, how is that going for you, Ron? You are down 41 points in your own home state.”

The Florida governor blamed California sanctuary cities, who forbid state resources from being used for federal immigration enforcement, for allowing migrants to remain in the state who have since committed crimes, accusing California of “thumbing their nose at federal immigration law.”

“The minute they have to deal with the consequences,” Mr DeSantis said, oh man, hell breaks lose.”

Mr Newsom, meanwhile, defended both his and the Biden administration’s record on the economy.

“The Biden administration in the last three years has been masterclass in job creation,” Governor Newsom said, pointing to strong job growth in the US, despite inflation hitting a four-decade high last year.

The California governor also said Mr DeSantis fell under the sway of extreme elements of his party when it came to responding to Covid, abandoning initial lockdowns.

“He did all of that until he decided to fall prey to the fringe inside of his party,” Mr Newsom said. “As a consequence of that, Ron, tens of thousands of people lost their lives.”

Kelly Clarkson’s ex-husband must pay her after overcharging her as manager

Kelly Clarkson’s ex-husband and former manager Brandon Blackstock has been ordered to pay her back after reportedly overcharging her for gigs.

According to legal documents obtained by People, a California labour commissioner ruled that Blackstock unlawfully booked gigs for the “Stronger” singer for stints on The Voice, Norwegian Cruise Line, Wayfair, and as host of the Billboard Music Awards. With a few exceptions, only agents can lawfully book gigs for their clients.

The labour commissioner reportedly ordered Blackstock to fork over commissions he collected for booking Clarkson’s gigs, amounting to $2,641,374. The embattled manager will allegedly be appealing the order.

Blackstock managed the singer for 1 years via his family’s company, Starstruck Management Group, during which time she was represented by the Creative Artists Agency (CAA). Despite booking gigs for her, Blackstock wasn’t a legally certified talent agent, therefore, all bookings and commissions he made were deemed unlawful practice.

For The Voice alone, the manager earned $1.98m in commissions as opposed to the $93.30 he received for booking Clarkson to host the Billboard Music Awards.

According to Today, the ongoing legal battle between the former spouses began in September 2020 after Starstruck Management Group filed a lawsuit against the talk show host, claiming that she owed the company unpaid commissions for bookings for The Voice and The Kelly Clarkson Show.

In October of the same year, the “Breakaway” singer reportedly filed a petition with the California Labor Commission alleging that Blackstock committed multiple violations of the California labour code. The petition claimed that Blackstock demanded “unconscionable fees and compensation” against Clarkson’s best interests.

At the time, Bryan Freedman – a lawyer representing Starstruck Management Group – said to TMZ: “It is unfortunate that Kelly is again attempting to avoid paying commissions that are due and owing to Starstruck to try and achieve some perceived advantage in her ongoing custody and divorce proceedings.”

The former couple married in late 2013 and were together for seven years until Clarkson filed for divorce in June 2020. The divorce was finalised two years later in March 2022.

The relationship and subsequent split reportedly influenced Clarkson’s latest studio album, Chemistry. In a conversation with Zane Lowe for Apple Music 1, the talk show host admitted: “I don’t know how people get through anything like that because I’m not going to say I did it gracefully. Behind closed doors by myself, it was not.”

“Just to be brutally honest, I did not handle it well,” she continued. “I had many sessions with just my friends [where] I couldn’t even speak. I was crying so hard, even before separating.”

The divorce was contentious as they battled over assets, most notably the Montana ranch they shared, which Clarkson ultimately won in the divorce settlement. Some other assets Clarkson won in the settlement include the family pets as well as multiple cars including a Ford Bronco, a Ford F-250, and a Porsche Cayenne.

According to the settlement, the “Since U Been Gone” singer had to pay Blackstock $1.3m and additional $45,000 a month in child support for their two children, daughter River Rose, nine, and son Remington Alexander, seven. He also reportedly receives $115,000 a month in spousal support, but those payments are set to end in January 2024.

1 ธ.ค. 2566 – เจ้าหน้าที่ตำรวจสายตรวจ สภ.เมืองลำปาง พร้อมด้วย เจ้าหน้าที่สมาคมกู้ภัยสว่างธรรมสถานลำปาง แพทย์เวรโรงพยาบาลลำปาง ได้เดินทางเข้าไปตรวจสอบบริเวณริมถนนสายลำปาง–งาว ขาขึ้น ตรงข้ามร้านอาหารเรือนแพในเขตเทศบาลนครลำปาง หลังรับแจ้งมีเหตุฆ่ากันตาย

โดยจุดเกิดเหตุ พบศพผู้เสียชีวิต นอนอยู่บริเวณฟุตบาทริมถนน ทราบชื่อต่อมา คือ นายชนะเดช ประหารข้าศึก อายุ 68 ปี สภาพศพถูกทำร้ายร่างกายจนเสียชีวิต คาดว่าน่าจะถูกชก ใกล้กันยังพบด้ามเหล็กและพลั่วเหล็ก วางอยู่ข้างๆ ศพ

ส่วนผู้ก่อเหตุไม่ได้หลบหนีไปไหนรอมอบตัวกับเจ้าหน้าที่ตำรวจ คือ นายอัศวิน วัฒนะโชติ อายุ 54 ปี ซึ่งเป็นเพื่อนบ้านกับผู้เสียชีวิต ได้ให้การว่า ก่อนเกิดเหตุช่วงเช้าที่ผ่านมา ตนเองกับผู้ตายได้ทะเลาะกัน เนื่องจากก่อนหน้านั้น แม่ตนเองจูงสุนัขออกมาเดินเล่นหน้าบ้าน ผู้ตายได้ออกมาต่อว่าและห้ามไม่ให้เอาสุนัขมาเดินแถวนี้ เพราะสุนัขชอบมาอึทำคววามสกปรก หลังจากนั้นพอตนทราบเรื่อง จึงออกมาต่อว่า ทำให้ผู้ตายเกิดความไม่พอใจ ก่อนที่ผู้ตายจะไปเอาพลั่วเหล็ก พร้อมกับด้ามเหล็กนั้นมาฟาดตน ถูกที่บริเวณข้อศอกจนมีบาดแผล หลังจากนั้นตนได้ป้องกันตัว ด้วยการชกเข้าไปที่ผู้ตายหลายครั้ง จนผู้ตายล้มลงเสียชีวิตดังกล่าว

ท้้งนี้ เจ้าหน้าที่ตำรวจได้ควบคุมตัวผู้ก่อเหตุไว้ พร้อมจะสอบปากคำเพื่อหาสาเหตุที่แท้จริงของการก่อเหตุในครั้งนี้ต่อไป และจะได้ให้ทางแพทย์เวรโรงพยาบาลลำปางชันสูตรพลิกศพอีกครั้งว่า ผู้ตายนั้นเสียชีวิตจากการทำร้ายร่างกายด้วยสาเหตุชกต่อยหรือถูกอาวุธอย่างอื่นทำร้ายหรือไม่.
