Recently released former Senate President and Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Anyim Pius Anyim, has said that he will contest the Presidency in 2023 whether the Peoples Democratic Party zones it to the South-East region or not.
Anyim was recently grilled by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for several hours in connection with the fund which was traced to a company in which he was a director.
The former Secretary to the Government of the Federation in an interview with journalists on Saturday said that the PDP’s national convention would signal the commencement of political activities in the party, adding that it was an ample time to indicate interest.
“Posters of my presidential bid and agitations by groups for me to contest flooded the social media in 2020 and I disassociated myself from such calls,” he said.
“I felt that it was too early for such declarations to enable the present administration concentrate on governance. Such calls resurfaced in the early part of 2021 and I choose to be quiet over the issue.
“We presently have less that 18 months to the next elections and I feel the time was ripe to indicate my interest.”
He noted that the zoning committee constituted by the party was only saddled with zoning party positions and not elective positions ahead of 2023.
“Zoning of such positions was deferred but nothing stops any one from the South-East zone from contesting the presidency even if it was not zoned to it.
“The most important thing is that the party’s national convention is a sort of rebirth for a group of people who have recovered from a setback. The party members are presently focused and determined to reclaim power with one spirit,” he added.

Alec Baldwin has made his first comments in public since the fatal shooting on the set of Rust.
His voice hoarse and his face strained with grief, Baldwin told a reporter from BackGrid he had been gagged from speaking about the accidental shooting of Halyna Hutchins by the Santa Fe Sheriff’s Department.
“She was my friend,” Baldwin said of Ms Hutchins, a 42-year-old married mother of one, who was killed at the Bonanza Creek Ranch on 14 October.
“There are incidental accidents on film sets from time to time, but nothing like this,” he said.
“This is a one in a trillion episode, a one in a trillion event.”
Baldwin agreed to speak briefly to a reporter on the side of the road in Vermont, as his wife Hilaria stood filming the impromptu encounter on her cellphone nearby.
Baldwin said he was limited in what he could say.
“I’m not allowed to make any comments because it’s an active investigation. A woman died. She was my friend, she was my friend,” he said.
“When I arrived in Sante Fe to start shooting, I took her to dinner.
“We were a very, very well-oiled crew shooting a film together when this horrible event happened.”
Mr Baldwin was a producer on Rust, as well as appearing as a gunfighter in the Western film, set in the 19th Century.
When asked about growing calls to end the use of real firearms on film sets, Baldwin said he supported the move.
“I do know and ongoing effort to limit the use of firearms on a set is something I’m extremely interested in,” he said.
Baldwin said he was in “constant contact” with Ms Hutchins’ husband Matthew, and was “very worried” about her family.

A former candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance for the November 6 Anambra Governorship Election, Chukwuma Umeoji, has defected to the All Progressives Congress.
Umeoji, a member of the House of Representatives, was at various times the governorship candidate of APGA in the lead up to the November 6 governorship election in Anambra State.
However, a judicial topsy-turvy saw him being replaced with Prof Chukwuma Soludo at least on two occasions before a final court order which dismissed his candidacy and upheld that of Soludo.
In a statement on Saturday, factional APGA National Publicity Secretary, Ikechukwu Chukwunyere, said the legislator representing Aguata (Anambra) federal Constituency has now joined the APC.
The Caretaker Committee Chairman of the APC, Governor Mai Mala Buni, the statement added, had received Umeoji with excitement.
“With this development, APGA has lost its simple majority in the House of Assembly and has become a minority party in the state while APC has become the majority party in the state House of Assembly,” the statement read.
“This is clearly not the best of times for the APGA as the November 6 Anambra State governorship election draws nearer.
“The gale of defection that has so far hit the ruling party in the state in the build-up to the election is clearly an indication that APGA has lost its political grip on the state and hence may lose the forthcoming election.
“The latest defection that hit APGA like a thunderbolt is that of the party’s former governorship candidate in the election who is also a top-ranking legislator representing Aguata (Anambra) Federal Constituency, Hon. Chukwuma Umeoji.
“APGA’s loss in the person of Umeoji is a political gain for the All Progressives Congress. The highly elated Yobe State Governor and Chairman APC Caretaker Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee, Mai Mala Buni, personally received Umeoji to the party on Friday and promised him equal opportunities with other leading members of the ruling party.”

At least eight people have been killed in an explosion near an airport security checkpoint in southern Yemen, officials have said.
The blast took place on Saturday afternoon close to a security checkpoint outside Aden’s international airport, injuring at least 11 other people, according to officials who spoke to the Associated Press on condition of anonymity.
It was not immediately clear what caused the explosion, which damaged buildings and an internet cafe in the area.
Aden has been the home of the internationally-recognised government of president Abed Rabbo Mansour Hadi since the Iranian-backed Houthi rebels took over Yemen’s capital, Sanaa, in 2014, triggering the country’s ongoing civil war.
The southern coastal city has been hit by several explosions in recent years, which have been blamed on local affiliates of al-Qaida and Islamic State groups, while the Houthis have previously targeted the city with ballistic missiles and explosive-laden drones.

So far, 2021 has felt like one of the most significant years for the Ultimate Fighting Championship since its inception in 1993.
A host of intriguing match-ups and enthralling bouts have seen mixed martial arts’ flagship promotion further its reach and strengthen its credibility in the eyes of many observers – as well as the credibility of the sport.
And while no fighter has yet matched the crossover status of Conor McGregor, athletes like Israel Adesanya, Jorge Masvidal and Khamzat Chimaev have continued to attract enough interest from fans of other sports to suggest that the UFC will soon have more genuine stars on its hands.
McGregor himself has been more active than in recent years, too, fighting more than once in one calendar year for the first time since 2016. The Irishman’s knockout loss to Dustin Poirier in January and defeat by the American in July – when McGregor suffered a broken leg that led to a doctor stoppage – have damaged the in-ring reputation of ‘Notorious’ but elevated Poirier greatly.
‘The Diamond’ might finally earn the right to call himself an undisputed UFC champion later this year, but a lightweight title fight with Charles Oliveira is not yet official.
Below is the UFC’s remaining schedule for 2021, and The Independent’s key fights to look out for have been highlighted in bold.
Kamaru Usman (C) vs Colby Covington II (welterweight title)
Rose Namajunas (C) vs Weili Zhang II (women’s strawweight title)
Justin Gaethje vs Michael Chandler (lightweight)
Frankie Edgar vs Marlon Vera (bantamweight)
Al Iaquinta vs Bobby Green (lightweight)
Max Holloway vs Yair Rodriguez (featherweight)
Ketlen Vieira vs Miesha Tate (women’s bantamweight)
Rob Font vs Jose Aldo (bantamweight)
Amanda Nunes (C) vs Julianna Pena (women’s bantamweight title)
Jorge Masvidal vs Leon Edwards (welterweight)

Sean Spicer has been accused of being afraid of his former boss Donald Trump after he refused to admit he had lost the 2020 election.
Appearing on Real Time with Bill Maher on Friday, Mr Spicer was repeatedly asked why he couldn’t say Joe Biden had been the rightful victor.
“Did Trump win or lose the election?” Bill Maher asked.
“I don’t know,” Mr Spicer replied.
“Well there you go, because the world does,” Mr Maher said.
“Trump lost this election and you won’t say it.
“You’re either part of the Big Lie, or you’re part of the conspiracy. You’re afraid of Trump.”
Bill Maher: “Did Trump win or lose the election?”
Sean Spicer: “I don’t know.”
Maher: “Well, there you go, because the world does!” https://t.co/zX2ZPbRG0k
— Brian Stelter (@brianstelter) October 30, 2021
Mr Spicer, a former White House press secretary-turned Newsmax host, became flustered as he denied being afraid of Mr Trump.
He went on to cite the debunked conspiracy theory about widespread voter fraud.
Former Obama White House aide Tommy Vietor tweeted Mr Spicer was “forever a laughing stock”.
Others questioned why Mr Maher would give a platform to someone who refused to recognise the legitimacy the election.

A woman is being praised by social media users for firmly telling a man who had been “harassing her for months” to stay away from her at the gym.
Chelsie Gleason, from Texas, caught the interaction on camera and shared the video to her TikTok account, where it has been viewed more than 20 million times.
The clip, which was posted on 28 October, shows her lifting weights in the gym.
“I was just trying to work out when this happens,” the video caption said.
Shortly after, a man appears in the video, approaching her from behind.
He leans in and attempts to speak to her, before she quickly moves away, drops the weights, and shouts, “don’t come near me”.
“I’ve never met this guy and he’s been harassing me for months,” Gleason wrote.
The video has received more than 36,000 comments, many of which praised Gleason for her reaction.
“Yes! Always be loud and call attention! I’m so sorry you had to deal with that,” one user said.
“Notice how fast he walked away when you brought attention to the situation, he knew he was in the wrong,” another person wrote.
A third user said: “You handled that very well. Sorry you have to experience things like that,” one person said.
Fitness apparel company also commended Gleason for standing up for herself.
“The gym should be a safe space for everyone. We’re sorry it hasn’t been for you lately. Proud of you for sticking up for yourself,” a comment from the brand said.
In a follow-up video, Gleason said employees at the gym had seen the incident, and that the unnamed man has now been banned from the gym.
Despite being told he could not come back, he tried to return to the gym and employees called the police, according to Gleason.
In the video, the 20-year-old alleged that the man had been harassing her for a number of months.
Recalling her first interaction with him, she said: “When I first had an interaction with this guy, he seemed like just a random nice guy who would come up and talk to people in the gym.
“After weeks and weeks and weeks of this happening, it started to get a little weird. I’ve already told him I don’t really need [his] help, I don’t want [his] advice,” she said.
“He would follow me around weird areas at the gym, and just harass me.”
The gym has been contacted for comment.

The National Leader of the All Progressive Congress (APC), Bola Tinubu, is currently in a close-door meeting with Vice President Yemi Osinbajo.
Though it is not clear what the agenda of the meeting is, it may not be unconnected with the 2023 Presidential elections.
This is coming days after South-West Governors visited the former Governor in his Lagos residence.
The South-West Governors Forum on Tuesday after a meeting held in Lagos State to discuss the issue of insecurity and other related concerns in the region, had visited Tinubu, who recently returned to the country after a medical trip to the United Kingdom.
Those present were; the host governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, as well as Gboyega Oyetola (Osun), Dapo Abiodun (Ogun), and Kayode Fayemi (Ekiti).
While Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State was absent, he was represented by his deputy, Rauf Olaniyan.

President Muhammadu Buhari has promised to leave office by 2023, swearing by the Holy Quran.
The Nigerian President also swore that he will serve in accordance with the constitution and go when his time is up.
Buhari was quoted as saying, “I swore by the Holy Qur’an that I will serve in accordance with the constitution and leave when my time is up. No ‘Tazarce’ (tenure extension). I don’t want anybody to start talking about and campaigning for an unconstitutional extension. I will not accept that.”
The President stated this at a meeting in Makkah with some Nigerians living in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia where he just ended a visit.
SaharaReporters had earlier reported that members of the Aso Rock cabal were pushing a third-term agenda for President Buhari and for the amendment of the Nigerian Constitution to allow the President to stay beyond 2023.
Section 137 (1)(b) of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended), provides that “a person shall not be qualified for election to the office of President if he has been elected to such office at any two previous elections”.
The statement by Buhari appears to be his way of shutting down the members of the cabal who have been pressurising him to go for another term in office.
A similar move was made about 14 years for former President Olusegun Obasanjo, which failed.
The so-called Third Term Agenda collapsed on May 16, 2006, when the Nigerian Senate threw out the Constitutional Amendments Bill. Obasanjo left office a year later on May 29, 2007.
Sources in the Presidency had told SaharaReporters recently that members of the Aso Rock cabal were in on it and that some of them who had presidential ambitions ahead of the 2023 elections had been told to step down.
One of them is the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, who had been eyeing the Presidency, as SaharaReporters had earlier reported.
The cabals comprising some members of the President’s extended family, friends, and some northern governors and leaders are described as the powers behind the throne.
In a statement issued by Garba Shehu, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Buhari warned anyone canvassing for a tenure extension for him.
The statement further said President Buhari also tacitly expressed support for efforts to increase the role of technology in the nation’s elections, arguing that the introduction of the card reader and electronic register was God’s answer to his prayers, having been cheated of his victory in three previous elections.
“After the third so-called defeat, I said, ‘God Dey’. My opponents laughed at me but God answered my prayers by bringing in technology. At that point, nobody can steal their votes or buy them.”
President Buhari, who ended his visit to the Kingdom with the Friday Prayers at the Grand Mosque in Makkah said he will continue to abide by the constitution in all its ramifications and he will at all times supervise and deal with his ministers on the same basis.
He gave assurances at the meeting that in the balance of “eighteen months or so of my time left, whatever I can do to improve the life of Nigerians, I will do it for the country.”
The President commended Nigerians in Saudi Arabia for representing the country well and projecting its good image.
He also asked citizens to be fair to his administration at all times, asking critics to compare the security situations in the North-East and South-South in 2015 and the current situation.
“My problem is the North-West where people are killing and stealing from one another. I had to be very hard on them and I will continue to be very hard until we put them in line and bring back order,” he said.
Meanwhile, the Nigerian Ambassador to Saudi Arabia, Yahaya Lawal and the Consul-General in Jeddah, Abdulkarim Mansur, attested to the good conduct of the nearly 1.5 million Nigerians there.
He said, “Nigerian professionals are doing well and projecting a good image of our country.”

England’s David Skinns played his way into contention for a first prize of £525,000 on day two of the Butterfield Bermuda Championship.
Skinns, who turned to delivery driving to make ends meet during the coronavirus pandemic, carded a second-consecutive 67 at Port Royal Golf Course to post a halfway total of eight under par, two shots behind clubhouse leader Patrick Rodgers.
The 39-year-old from Lincolnshire is a veteran of the mini tours in the United States and earned his PGA Tour card for this season by winning the final event of the second-tier Korn Ferry Tour in August.
“I’m feeling pretty comfortable,” Skinns told reporters after a round containing seven birdies and three bogeys. “That’s half the battle out here, feel ordinary.
“I’m sure Tiger Woods felt every single movement was ordinary to him because he’s seen everything.
“That’s kind of where we all want to get to. We want to be in those moments, but have them feel like you’ve been there before. We go week by week.”
Rodgers made an eagle and six birdies in his 64 to set the clubhouse target on 10 under par, a shot ahead of compatriot Vincent Whaley.
Former US Open champion Graeme McDowell and Ireland’s Seamus Power are five shots off the pace on five under, with pre-tournament favourite Matt Fitzpatrick two strokes further back.
Fitzpatrick, who won the Andalucia Masters on his last start, was also five under after following birdies on the second, fourth and 10th with an eagle on the 17th, only to double bogey the last.
The 27-year-old from Sheffield found the green in regulation but was faced with a lengthy downhill putt and could not keep his ball on the green.

Kwara State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has said claims made by the Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, that he funded the 2019 elections in the state are false.
The secretary of the party, Alhaji Mustapha Ishowo, stated this at a news conference in Ilorin, on Thursday.
Ishowo, who was also a principal officer of the party in 2019, condemned what he called the minister’s dictatorial and divisive tendencies, saying it was uncharitable for Mohammed to claim that he funded the election campaign of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazak.
He described Mohammed as a “tyrant” who does not tolerate any opposing views, saying the governor’s crime since the campaign period was to insist on mutual respect, equity, and transparent use of campaign funds.
He said, “As a party elder, one would have been quiet because it is always important to give room for peace and reconciliation, no matter the situation. However, silence in the face of tyranny and naked falsehood may be interpreted as agreement or consent. Having read the interview of Alhaji Lai, the impression is that he has not changed one bit from his old self. Alhaji Lai Mohammed is egocentric and always economical with the truth. He is always given to self-promotion and clout chasing.”
According to the party chieftain, the claims in the interview by the minister were self-serving and not representative of the truth.
“Alhaji Lai had for long taken advantage of the governor’s coolheaded nature. Maybe it is time to really open the can of worms for the world to better know Alhaji Lai for who he is. Alhaji Lai is divisive, territorial, dictatorial, and is never a team player. His claim of funding elections is bogus and typical of his lies. He was nowhere to be found during our campaigns which he not only boycotted but directed all his hirelings to also boycott,” he added.
“The then governorship candidate ran and led his own campaign across the state, day and night. This was heavily bankrolled by the candidate himself. He also donated hugely to the campaigns of other candidates, even when he had his own election to run. This is the fact, and any claim to the contrary by Alhaji Lai and his followers is synonymous with his widely acclaimed epithet: lie.”
Ishowo also narrated that the minister was always promoting factions with his notorious Lai Mohammed Campaign Organisation (LAMCO).
“Alhaji Lai Mohammed is an extremely divisive figure who hides under his position to discriminate against and oppress other party elders and members alike. He does not tolerate dissent under any guise. He is notorious for promoting tendencies, especially placing people from his Lai Mohammed Campaign Organisation, aka LAMCO, above every other person. Whether in Kwara South, North or Central, this has been his problem with other party elders and chieftains alike.
“His habit of promoting tendencies and wanting to dominate others is at the root of why he sought to remote-control the then governorship candidate Mallam Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq. When the candidate sensed this danger and sought to work on the basis of equity, mutual respect and understanding, Alhaji Lai directed the former party chairman, BOB and other party executives, to boycott the campaign of the governorship candidate.
“So, except on three occasions or thereabouts after the presidential election had been won, you cannot see either Alhaji Lai Mohammed or BOB or anyone who aligned with him joining the campaign of the governorship candidate. A few of us who chose to join the candidate to campaign were blacklisted. These people are still alive. The governorship candidate led his own campaign to every corner of the state, many times sleeping in far-flung communities. Videos and other records are available.
“Alhaji Lai Mohammed’s claim that he funded the APC election campaign in 2019 is a fallacy. Anyone who knows Alhaji Lai Mohammed knows he cannot part with his kobo. The claim that he bankrolled the governor’s campaign is an empty boast that every serious party member and elder knows to be false. If anything, he was simply cornering party funds for personal promotion and use.
“The motorcycles he was talking about were donations to the party which he was forced to share after a tug of war and subtle threats of reporting him to the party’s national secretariat and the donors. Indeed, rather than warehouse such donated items at the party secretariats, they were kept at his LAMCO office. This shows his nature as a sectional and maximum ruler.
“I urge people to be wary of Alhaji Lai Mohammed. Not only does he lie so effortlessly, he is a tyrant who does not care if heaven falls for as long as his agenda is served. Our disagreement with him started when we asked him to account for the humongous donations made to the party for the campaign. They refused to be accountable. They outlawed anyone who asked them questions. Is that the person boasting to the whole world?”

Khloe Kardashian has revealed that she and her three-year-old daughter True have tested positive for Covid-19.
The Keeping Up With The Kardashians star, 37, shared the news on Friday, writing on Twitter: “Hi guys I wanted to let you know True and I tested positive for Covid. I’ve had to cancel several commitments and I’m sorry I won’t be able to make those happen. Luckily I have been vaccinated so all will be ok.”
Kardashian also said that she and her daughter, who she shares with Tristan Thompson, would be quarantining and “following current guidelines”.
“Be safe everyone,” the Good American founder added in a follow-up post.
The reality star previously tested positive for Covid in March 2020. At the time, Kardashian described her experience with the illness, which she said was “really bad for a few days,” on an episode of Keeping Up With The Kardashians. The mother-of-one also revealed some of her symptoms, which included coughing, shaking, vomiting, and headaches along with cold and hot flashes.
In October 2020, Kardashian spoke with Ellen DeGeneres about her diagnosis, with the Revenge Body star revealing that she was quarantined in her room for 16 days, but that the “hardest part” had been being away from her daughter.
“I don’t care how beautiful the place you have, being taken away from your child for that long, because I couldn’t be around my daughter, that was the most, like, heart-wrenching thing,” she said.
Kardashian also recently told her social media followers that she experienced hair loss as a possible side effect of the virus.

Media mogul and businessman, Chief Dele Momodu has joined the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), an opposition party.
Momodu announced his move to the PDP in a statement on Friday.
He explained that his decision was based on the need to contribute meaningfully to the development of the country.
The journalist accused the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) of failing in delivering democratic dividends to Nigerians, maintaining that the PDP has landmark achievements to show for their 16-year rule.
He said, “I have consulted widely. And it is clear to me that given the dangerous and disastrous drift that our nation has experienced in the past six years, the only party from which amends can be made to rectify our situation is the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
“This accords with my vehement opposition to the policies and practices of the All Progressive Congress (APC) and its leadership, which has denuded our country of everything we hold dear – national unity, cohesion, security, economic prosperity, educational advancement, social infrastructure, and above all, our cherished moral values.
“For these reasons, I am happy to declare that I am now a full-fledged participating member of the great and patriotic Peoples Democratic Party.
“It is deeply saddening and regrettable that some of the biggest and landmark achievements recorded under the PDP administration have been diluted, wasted, or diminished by the present APC government.”

Northern groups have warned political parties against fielding aged and incompetent candidates for the forthcoming 2023 Presidential election, saying such will be rejected by them.
This was part of the agreements reached on Thursday during the Maitama Sule Leadership Lecture Series organised by the Students Wing of Coalition of Northern Groups, Borno State chapter.
Speaking at the event, the spokesperson for the Northern Elders Forum (NEF), Hakeem Baba-Ahmed explicitly stated that the North will turn its back on any party that deliberately tilts advantages to candidates from particular regions, while insisting on credibility during elections.
He informed Northerners with a presidential ambition to know that the NEF, CNG (Coalition of Northern Groups) and other Northern groups are not merely supporting the emergence of a Northerner to succeed President Muhammadu Buhari, but also interested in a qualified candidate.
In admittance of the failures of President Buhari’s administration, Baba-Ahmed said being from the North alone is not enough to make one a good leader.
Therefore, he said, the state of the North today represents the best caution that what you see as yours is not necessarily the best where you have a choice, and every Nigerian must have a choice.
“If a Northerner is to become the next President with our votes in the North, then he has to be the best among all others. He has to convince us in the North that he understands our problems, and can solve them. He must have the disposition, energy, health and intelligence to heal the breached pluralism of the North and build bridges across the entire nation.
“He has to be able to lead a country that is failing in a number of significant areas. A personal ambition to be President will not be enough, and we will scrutinise and advise those who will listen, to avoid the temptation to put in place persons who just want power, but not responsibility.
“A president from the North must have the exposure and network to reintegrate all parts of Nigeria into one country and one vision. He must have the courage to eliminate threats of insurgents, bandits, kidnappers, irredentists, impunity, the drugs pandemic and corruption.
“He must lead with a sense of mission and urgency; the wisdom to negotiate where necessary and the clout to hit hard where he needs to; and a clear understanding of the sources and nature of our threats and their solutions,” he said.
“The point must be made again that every Nigerian, irrespective of his political party or identity must be free to contest within his or her party to be fielded as a Presidential candidate, and we should reject any party that specifically and deliberately excludes any Nigerian from exercising the same right other Nigerians have,” he said.
He however boasted that the North had shown its commitment to national unity and the democratic process and that it has paid a huge price for the unity and survival of the country.
He also claimed that the North has never been parasitic to the country, saying, “while the North believes that it serves all interests to stay as one united country, it will, however, be difficult for us to continue to defend our co-existence if it can only be achieved at our permanent expense.”
He said those who should question their commitments are people who threaten to leave the country or make it ungovernable if the next President does not bear all the hallmarks of their preferences.
“The rest of Nigeria has a legitimate cause of concern when sections of the country that have become virtual hostages of irredentists, suggest that only when they have the Presidency will the country eliminate organised violence that has made massive inroads into lives of Nigerian citizens living there.”
Taking a swipe at Buhari’s regime, Baba-Ahmed noted that the regime has failed woefully as it had allowed insecurity, irredentism, corruption, poverty, unemployment of the young and lack of faith in the democratic process to become a way of life in Nigeria today.
Also speaking, a female politician, Hajiya Najatu Mohammed charged the youth to rise and confront the challenges of regaining control of their destiny, urging them not to rely anymore on the shaky path being laid by those who pose as Nigerian leaders today.
She lamented that those in positions of leadership are people who are ill-equipped and ill-prepared to lead but for their political ambitions and quests for the criminal acquisition of wealth.
“The time to get organised is now, time to move by you, the youth, particularly students in higher institutions to wrest control of your affairs and rescue your generation and the next from the margins of decadence, decay and irrelevance being toed by our current leaders,” she said.
Similarly, Professor Usman Yusuf, former Executive Secretary of the NHIS, stressed that the youth should urgently register massively as their only sure way to flush out those he called, bandits in government.
Professor Yusuf said those occupying positions of leadership today are worse than bandits as they breed banditry and nurture the ground for all forms of criminality by entrenching corruption, impunity, official lawlessness and excessive greed.
“This can only be remedied if the youth, particularly students in higher institutions massively acquire Permanent Voter Cards and participate actively in the campaign to sensitise the northern population to do so,” he said.
In response, the Board of Trustees Chairman of the CNG, Nastura Ashir Shariff warned the youth against risking their collective future in the hands of any of the major political parties in the country presently.
He categorically warned that any of the major parties that field incompetent, weak and aged candidates would be roundly rejected by the North.
He charged the youth to remain vigilant with regards to the direction the parties are conducting their affairs.
