Amotekun Unleashes Mayhem In Ondo Community After Protest Over Results Of A ‘Sham’ Councillorship Poll

The operatives of the Ondo State Security Network Agency, also known as Amotekun on Thursday unleashed mayhem on protesting youths of Igbara-Oke ward one of Ifedore Local Government Area of the state.

This followed the announcement of a winner for the bye-election conducted on Wednesday, November 10, 2021, which many described as a sham.

The Ondo State Independent Electoral Commission (ODIEC) had announced Kehinde Lawal as the winner of the election that many residents said never took place.

According to a source, youths in the community had gathered to protest against the result of what was regarded as a kangaroo election.
The ward has 26 units but electoral materials were only deployed in 9 units, with no ballot papers or any electoral materials deployed for the remaining 17 units, it was further learnt.

It was also learnt that after security agencies and all stakeholders had agreed that there was no election, but ODIEC around 3:00 pm announced a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Kehinde Lawal as the winner of the election.

However, this didn’t go down well with the youths who decided to stage a protest to reject the imposition.

The state governor, Rotimi Akeredolu thereafter deployed Amotekun operatives to clamp down on the protesters.

Akeredolu, through his Chief Press Secretary, Richard Olatunde subsequently ordered the imposition of a 24-hour curfew on Igbara-Oke, to cover up the dastardly act committed by the Amotekun operatives, a youth in the community said.

Pictures and video obtained by SaharaReporters show many members of the community were bloodied from the encounter with the Amotekun operatives.

In the video obtained by SaharaReporters, a man allegedly shot in the leg said he was “shot by Amotekun” with other people with him also confirming that the security outfit was responsible for it.

Pictures show some others sustained injuries on different parts of the body, particularly the leg.

The Ondo Amotekun boss, Adetunji Adeleye, however, did not answer calls from SaharaReporters to his mobile phone. He also did not reply to a message sent to him.
