Yoruba Secessionist Group, Ilana Omo Oodua Inaugurates Elder Advisory Council, Moves To Secure Igboho’s Release
The Yoruba self-determination group, Ilana Omo Oodua has begun the movement to secure the release of Yoruba freedom fighter, Sunday Adeyemo (Igboho) who is currently detained at a prison in Benin Republic.
The group disclosed this during the inauguration of its Elders Advisory Council in Ibadan on Thursday.
Leader of Ilana Omo Oodua, Professor Banji Akintoye said the group will continue in its quest for self-determination and charged religious leaders to join the Yoruba group during rallies.
Meanwhile, Kunle Adelakun, a member of the group revealed that 160 affiliated members of the Ilana Omo Oodua have called on the leadership of the group to expel Shade Olukoya and others who recently allegedly conspired against the self-determination group.
The group thereafter passed a vote of confidence on the leadership of Professor Banji Akintoye.
Adelakun said, “A unanimous vote of confidence is hereby passed and reaffirmed once again given to Professor Akintoye to lead the Yoruba people out of the contraption called Nigeria. That we commend Professor Akintoye in his uncompromising resolve to free our industrious son, Sunday Igboho from incarceration.
“That the conference held in Lagos by one Otunba Shade Olukoya was a bad taste and has no support and approval of the coalition; that we call all the leadership of Ilana Omo Oodua to expel Shade Olukoya with immediate effect.”
Some weeks ago, the vice-chairman of the group, Shade Olukoya accused Prof Akintoye of financial impropriety and politicisation of the group’s activities.
But in a statement signed by its expanded executive members, Ilana Omo Oodua said the group was formed in August 2020 mainly by Professor Banji Akintoye and some of “his ideological children” to promote the peaceful agitation for the actualisation of Yoruba Nation.
The group also insisted that “those who are currently rocking the boat came to join the movement after its take-off and were accepted in order to have a large support base for the Yoruba self-determination struggle.”
Mocking the Nigerian Government on the failed attempt to kill the agitation for Yoruba Nation, Ilana Omo Oodua said “the ill-fated attempt to dismantle the Akintoye-led leadership yesterday, Thursday 18th November 2021 by the agents of the Nigerian Government” is the beginning of another era for the Yoruba redemption agenda.
“We, the apex leadership of Ilana Omo Oodua (IOO), wish to inform the Yoruba people within and beyond the horizon of Yoruba Land that our leader, Professor Banji Akintoye, is leading us well, thus, we pass a Vote of Confidence on his leadership,” the group said in the statement.
