Aloy Ejimakor, a special counsel for the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu says if Goodluck Jonathan chooses to contest for Presidency come 2023, he will be disqualified by the court and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Some supporters of the former President had urged him to contest for President in 2023. Jonathan’s posters had last week flooded the national secretariat of the APC.
Some youth groups also stormed his office in the Maitama area of Abuja last week, calling on him to join the presidential race.
The protesters lamented that since he left office, hunger, insecurity, and unemployment, among others had become the order of the day.
The supporters said that both men and women have turned to beggars because of the unfavourable policies of the present administration.
In his response, the former President said he could not say if he would declare or not but advised his supporters to “watch out”.
But in a tweet on Friday said the 1999 Constitution of Nigeria already disqualifies Jonathan from contesting in the election if INEC fails to do that.
The lawyer quoted Section 137(3) of the Constitution which says that “A person who was sworn-in to complete the term for which another person was elected as President, shall not be elected to such office for more than a single term”.

The Chairman of Langtang North Local Government Area of Plateau State, Ubandoma Joshua Laven, has said that the state government ignored his warning over the recent attack in the Kanam council area of the state.
Laven said he told Governor Simon Lalong’s administration that terrorists were camping in the forests, mountains, hinterland and some other places.
According to him, the recent killings in Kanam Local Government Area of the state would have been averted if the state government had heeded his warning and acted swiftly on intelligence reports, Daily Trust reports.
No fewer than 150 people were recently killed and about 5,000 others displaced by terrorists who invaded eight communities in Kanam.
Laven, who spoke to journalists at the Yakubu Gowon Airport, Heipang, Jos, also denied saying in a viral video that he would stop a particular ethnic group from coming to campaign in Tarok land ahead of the 2023 general elections.
The Commissioner for Information and Communication, Dan Manjang, however, described Laven’s allegations as a figment of his imagination.
“The government had done a lot on security, even if not divulged to the public,” Manjang said, noting that the attacks were not peculiar to Plateau State or the country.

Last year, Apple added App Tracking Transparency to iOS, and the shift in the flow of data from mobile users was enough to unsettle even Facebook. Now, Google, which relies on targeted advertising for its business model, is preparing its own multi-year adjustment to mobile ad tracking and privacy.
Starting today, app developers can get their first look at the new system, as the first developer preview of Privacy Sandbox on Android rolls out, following the path of similar tests in Google’s Chrome browser on the desktop.
This new plan is supposed to replace Android’s existing advertising ID, which is a user-resettable ID for each device with a Privacy Sandbox of “new, more private advertising solutions.” Like Apple’s approach, it claims to limit the data shared with third parties and cut out cross-app identifiers, but we still don’t know exactly which technology might be implemented. This developer preview operates on top of the Android 13 Developer Beta, with images for Pixel phones from the Pixel 4 to current Pixel 6 models.
Google’s pitch has been that it can find a way to protect user privacy better than the existing solutions, while still providing information for targeted advertising that runs on websites like this one and inside many free apps. Critics, including competitors, privacy advocates, and regulators, have suggested that its approaches will harm privacy and possibly give Google an unfair advantage that harms competition. An antitrust suit against Google by 15 state AGs took aim at the Privacy Sandbox last year.
Developers testing it out will get an early look at the Privacy Sandbox and Google’s cookie-replacing Topics API — and find out how they could work in practice.

With the preparations for the 2023 general elections climbing the crucial stage, the African Action Congress (AAC) has declared free for all positions, the expression of interest and nomination forms for aspirants.
Femi Adeyeye, publicity secretary of the party disclosed this in a statement obtained by SaharaReporters on Thursday.
Adeyeye said the decision was reached during the party’s National Working Committee meeting held on April 24.
“The African Action Congress seizes this medium to announce to members of the party and the general public its resolution reached at its meeting of April 24, 2022, one of which is to declare FREE FOR ALL POSITIONS, the Expression of Interest and Nomination forms.
“With a maddening inflation rate of 18 percent, unemployment at 33.3 percent, youth unemployment at 53.4 percent, Underemployment at 51 percent, Dollar to Naira exchange rate at 599 Naira to 1 Dollar, hike in electricity and other tariffs, workers’ minimum wage of N30,000 which in reality is barely paid, it is near impossible to find brilliant, financially upright and competent change-seeking Nigerians who would pay exorbitant and illegal fees such as the APC’s and PDP’s, just so as to contest in an election.
“As the (Muhammadu) Buhari regime has priced education, quality healthcare and other social services from the reach of the poor, it is clearer now more than ever, that it has priced participatory democracy so far from the reach of genuine change-seeking but poor people.
“The downward review from the AAC NWC, to the point of declaring FREE for all POSITIONS came after a clinical assessment of the economic woes caused by the unfortunate Buhari regime. We understand that for inclusive democracy to be kept alive in our society, even the poorest among us must not be disenfranchised through the backdoor- the money politics the evil twin, APC and PDP are known for.
“For comprehensive details of the obligatory donations and form processing fees which would be paid at the state level, aspirants should reach out to [email protected] and the following phone numbers. +234 812 599 9992 +234 816 905 3108.”
AAC also inaugurated a 7-man committee to engage labour centres across the country and beyond, on the ideas and ideals of the party.
“It is also important to bring to the notice of the public that the Working Committee of the party has launched into action a committee of very experienced labour cadres with a term of reference to engage labour centres across the country and beyond, on the ideas and ideals of the party. The 7-person committee was inaugurated on 5th April, 2022 and has started work immediately,” the statement read.
“Also, as an ideological party, charged with the mandate to radically transform Africa, starting from Nigeria, the NWC also found it necessary that the party manifesto is reviewed so that the programs of the party are in perfect tune with the current realities of our people across Africa. It was to this effect that a technical committee was set up on 7th, February 2022 and it has set the ball rolling- to consult far and wide on the programs of the party and present its final draft in due time.
“We urge all Nigerians to seize this opportunity of modern politics fashioned by the AAC, join our party, engage our programs, contest with ideas, mobilize, bond with us as we kick out the behemoth of the APC and PDP and their allies come 2023. We can not continue like this!”

Secretary of State Antony Blinken confirmed Tuesday there is an “ongoing threat” against past and present American officials by Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps,
This is coming just weeks after reports revealed the State Department is paying millions of dollars to protect former Secretary of State, Mike Pompeo, from threats.
Blinken acknowledged details made public last month in a sensitive State Department report, while testifying before a Senate panel, that outlined a security arrangement for the former secretary involving round-the-clock government protection.
“I’m not sure what I can say in an open setting, but let me say generically that there is an ongoing threat against American officials, both present and past,” Blinken said. “We are making sure, and we will make sure for as long as it takes that we’re protecting our people, present and former if they’re under threat.”
Pompeo, a former U.S. secretary of state and CIA director under President Donald Trump, was one of the architects of the Trump administration’s hard-line approach to Tehran, re-implementing sanctions after the U.S. withdrawal from the Iranian nuclear deal and supporting the assassination of Qassem Soleimani, a top Iranian general.
All former secretaries of state automatically receive protection from the State Department’s Bureau of Diplomatic Security for 180 days after leaving office.
According to the report, Blinken has repeatedly extended that protection for 60-day increments due to “a serious and credible threat from a foreign power or agent of a foreign power arising from duties performed by former Secretary Pompeo while employed by the department,” according to the sensitive State Department report to Congress last month.
The department is said to be spending over $2million per month to protect Pompeo and one of his top former aides, Brian Hook, and has spent over $13million to date, according to the report.
Blinken was responding to questioning from Republican Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas, who asked the secretary whether the Biden administration was requiring Iran to pledge “not to murder a former secretary of state.”
“They know what they’d need to do to address this problem, and that’s pretty straightforward,” Blinken said. “Within the context of any engagements we have, directly or indirectly with Iranians, one of the strong messages we send to them is, they need to stop targeting our people — period.”
The State Department did not respond to a request for additional comment. A representative of Pompeo did not provide comment.
The Biden administration has been concerned with the threats against Pompeo and Hook since January.
“Make no mistake: the United States of America will protect and defend its citizens,” National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan said at the time. “As Americans, we have our disagreements on politics. We have our disagreements on Iran policy. But we are united in our resolve against threats and provocations. We are united in the defence of our people.”

The biggest night in fashion is almost here. The Met Gala returns to its traditional “first Monday in May” slot on 2 May 2022 with the theme, “In America: An Anthology of Fashion.”
Occasionally viewed as the “Super Bowl of fashion,” the Met Gala is the annual fundraising event for the Costume Institute at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City, where the event is held.
Inside the exclusive event, there is a strict “no social media allowed” policy, but fans can still catch a glimpse of the evening’s memorable looks as celebrities, influencers, and fashion icons arrive on the Met Gala red carpet.
This is everything you need to know about watching this year’s Met Gala.
Vogue will once again livestream the Met Gala red carpet on its website and across the publication’s social media platforms, including Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook starting at 6pm ET. Singer and actor Vanessa Hudgens, television personality La La Anthony, and Vogue Magazine’s editor-at-large Hamish Bowles will be the livestream’s red carpet hosts for the evening, a position that was held by Keke Palmer and Ilana Glazer during last year’s livestream.
The theme for this year’s Met Gala is part two of the exhibit, “In America: A Lexicon of Fashion,” which took place in September 2021 after lockdowns in New York City shifted the spring event to the fall.
According to Vogue, the 2022 Met Gala centres on the “tenets of American style” throughout the 19th and 20th centuries, and celebrates the “anonymous and unsung heroes of US design.”
Regina King, Blake Lively, Ryan Reynolds and Lin-Manuel Miranda will serve as co-chairs of the 2022 Met Gala. Designer Tom Ford, Instagram’s Adam Mosseri, and Vogue’s Anna Wintour will remain as honorary co-chairs.
While the Met Gala began as a fundraiser for the museum’s Costume Institute in 1948, Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour has turned it into an exclusive, must-see event.
The attendees at last year’s Met Gala served some of fashion’s most iconic looks, including Kim Kardashian’s head-to-toe masked Balenciaga outfit, and Iman’s Dolce and Gabbana headdress. Model Cara Delevingne divided fans when she arrived wearing a vest with the words “Peg the patriarchy” written across the front, while rapper ASAP Rocky arrived wearing a huge, quilted blanket, which he found in a thrift store in California.
The Vogue livestream begins on Monday 2 May at 6pm ET (10pm GMT).

Ayo Adebanjo, Afenifere leader, says he warned the National Leader of the All Progressives Congress, Bola Tinubu, not to put his trust in President Buhari as the latter would never support his 2023 presidency ambition.
Adebanjo said this on Monday in his remarks at the “Greater Nigeria Conference” organised by the Nzuko Nmunna, an Igbo think-tank.
The focus of discussions at the conference was on the need to support a candidate from the South East in the 2023 general elections.
According to Adebanjo, it is the turn of the South-East to produce the next president in the interest of fairness and equity.
He said, “We all know the truth. They don’t want the South-East. It is not because they don’t know what is right. I only like to point to the fact that they are just deceiving you. All you are hearing, that they (the North) are supporting the South-West is an element of deceit to deprive you, to be able to rule you. They don’t like anybody.
“I told Tinubu himself, not in the papers, face-to-face. ‘You believe this man (Buhari) will make you President?’ He said ‘yes’. I said ‘he wants to make you President and yet he asked (Yemi) Osinbajo to contest? He asked (Kayode) Fayemi to contest, he asked Amosun (Ibikunle) to contest?’ All in the West, why? He wants to divide the West first.
“The unfortunate thing is that President Goodluck Jonathan allowed himself to be disgraced by mentioning the fact that ‘I am considering whether to be president or not. For what?
“Now that it is the turn of the South-East, they are propounding a new theory, it must be based on merit and all that. If it is the question of merit, who in the North qualifies to lead Nigeria? If it has been based on merit, the East alone would produce the President.
“I am saying all these because of the talks about ‘go and sell yourself, go and campaign, go and lobby’, it is all rigmarole. They know the truth.
“Although I don’t like all the people that came out from the East, for the fact that they are saying you have no people, I am happy you have demonstrated that you have people. But go and unite. A house divided against itself will not stand. The North doesn’t want to leave power. While the South is slugging it out, they put their candidate up.”

Leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu, has sued the Chief Judge of the Federal High Court Of Nigeria, Hon. Justice John Tsoho and the chief registrar of the Federal High Court of Nigeria over the new practice directions on hearing of terrorism cases.
Some weeks ago, Justice Tsoho issued Practice Directions On Trial of Terrorism cases, noting that “the distance and size of perimeters to be secured for the trial shall be determined based on the recommendation of security agencies on a case-by-case basis.”
It means terrorism trials including the ongoing trial of Nnamdi Kanu and other related ones will be done secretly, even without journalists, except the judge rules otherwise.
Kanu’s trial by the Nigerian government which continued on April 8, was the first casualty of the new directive.
In an originating summon with suit number FHC/ABJ/CS/550/2022 which was filed on Monday, April 25, Kanu’s lawyer, Ifeanyi Ejiofor, sought answers to whether the powers conferred on the 1st defendant, Tsoho includes the power to make directions for regulating trials of terrorism offences in the Federal High Court considering the provisions of Sections 36(1) and 364)(a) & (b) of the 1999 constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as amended.
Ejiofor argued that the said Practice Directions were issued without the approval of the Federal Executive Council (formerly the National Council of Ministers of the Federal Government of Nigeria).
The lawyer said the IPOB leader was not afforded any hearing before the said Directions were made by Justice Tsoho.
He further argued that his client, Kanu, against whose interest the said Directions were primarily made, has already been publicly tried and condemned by the Federal Government of Nigeria and her Attorney General.
“That I know as a fact that it is in the interest of justice and fair hearing that the Plaintiff who has been so tried and condemned publicly by his accusers, enjoys a public trial, devoid of the restrictions contained in the practice directions,” he added.
He also noted, “that the Practice Directions apply to and affect the proceedings in Charge No: FHC/AB/CR/383/2015 pending before Hon. Justice Binta Nyako of Court No 2, Federal High Court Abuja, in which the Plaintiff is being prosecuted under the Terrorism Prevention Amendment Act.”
Ejiofor further urged the court to restrain the Defendants and their agents from applying and enforcing the provisions of the Federal High Court Practice Directions on Trial of Terrorism Cases 2022.
Other reliefs sought include: “A declaration that the provisions of Order of the Federal High Court Practice Directions (On Trial of Terrorism Cases) 2022, are already the subject of Section 36(4)(a) & (b) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999, as amended, and consequently, they are otiose, inoperative and outrightly ultra vires the 1st Defendant, invalid, null, void and of no effect whatsoever.
“A declaration that the failure of the 1st Defendant to first seek and obtain the approval of the Federal Executive Council (or the National Council of Ministers) of the Federal Republic of Nigeria prior to enacting the Federal High Court Practice Directions (on Trials of Terrorism Cases), 2022, as required by Section 44 of the Federal High Court Act renders the Federal High Court Practice Direction (On Trial of Terrorism Cases) 2022, ultra vires, null and void.
“A declaration that Order III Rules 3(b) and (d) of the Federal High Court Practice Directions (On Trials of Terrorism Cases) 2022, which respectively empower a Federal High Court trying terrorism cases ‘to receive evidence by video link, and to receive written deposition of expert witness’ are inconsistent with Items 23 and 68 of the Exclusive Legislative List as well as Paragraph 2(b) of Part III of the 2nd Schedule to the Constitution which confers on the National Assembly the exclusive power to make rules of evidence, both substantive and adjectival and are therefore ultra vires, null and void to the extent of the inconsistency
“A declaration that Order IV Rule 2 of the Federal High Court Practice Direction (on Trial of Terrorism Cases) 2022, which provides that a person who contravenes an order or direction made under these Directions shall be deemed to have committed an offence contrary to Section 34(5) of the Terrorism (Prevention) Act 2011, (as amended) is otiose and inoperative, because the National Assembly had already covered the field vide Section 34(5) of the Terrorism Prevention Act 2011, as amended.
“A declaration that the rule-making powers of the 1st Defendant under Section 254 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 as amended, are limited to the premises of the Federal High Court and do not extend to outside its perimeters, which are under the exclusive responsibility of law enforcement agencies such as the Police, DSS, etc.
“An order of this honourable court declaring the federal high court practice directions (on trial of terrorism cases) 2022, unconstitutional ultra vires, invalid, null, void, and of no effect.
“The defendants are expected to appear within 30 days after the service of the summons on them, ‘inclusive of the day of such service cause an appearance to be entered for them to this summons which is issued upon the application of the above-named Plaintiff for the determination of the following question.’
“It was further noted that the duo, both of the Federal High Court may appear by entering appearance personally or by a Legal Practitioner either by filing the appropriate processes (as in order 7) in response at the Registry of the Court where the summons was issued or sending them to that office by any of the methods allowed by these Rules.”

If you’re an Apple user, then you might be seeing some problems in the App Store or with Apple Music. Apple’s system status page lists issues affecting “all users” for both services noticed since 11:41AM ET without going into detail about what the problems are. In our tests, the App Store and Apple Music are both generally operational, but users have noticed problems for a few hours.
Posters on Reddit have seen problems with Apple Music missing lyric information, Dolby Atmos, and lossless audio from songs where it should have those features, while some report they’re unable to play music even if it’s downloaded to their local storage for offline listening. Some users said logging in and logging out fixed the missing lossless audio features for them but not the missing lyrics. We were able to confirm the issue with lyrics as shown below.
9to5Mac reported earlier that Apple’s Privacy Labels aren’t appearing on many App Store listings and cited a source confirming it was a bug that would be fixed soon. There’s no official word on solutions or workarounds — or ETA for when the problems may be resolved.

A Florida judge has ruled that jury selection in the trial of Parkland gunman Nikolas Cruz must start again from scratch, scrapping two weeks worth of court proceedings and dismissing 250 potential jurors.
Broward County Circuit Judge Elizabeth Scherer announced on Monday morning that the jury selection will start over as she admitted that she had personally made mistakes in the process.
The judge said that she should have questioned 11 potential jurors who told the court that they would not follow the law if selected to sit on the panel determining the fate of the mass murderer before she dismissed them.
Initially, the 11 dismissed jurors were expected to be called back to court on Monday so that both the prosecution and the defence could question them over their comments.
Judge Scherer told the court on Monday morning that there had been a “miscommunication” and the group would instead be back in court next week.
Prosecutors filed a motion asking the judge to strike all potential jurors and restart the process altogether, citing what they described as “not a harmless error” in proceedings to date.
Cruz’s legal team objected to the motion, but the judge agreed with the prosecution, restarting the jury selection and effectively wiping out two weeks of work in the case.
More than 1,200 potential jurors had been screened and around 250 of them had said they could sit for a roughly four-month trial.
Now, this group will no longer be called back for questioning and a new pool of jurors will be screened.
This marks the latest upheaval to plague the trial after the misstep with the 11 jurors fuelled the possibility of a mistrial being declared.
The start date for the trial is now likely to be delayed once again, after it was already pushed back from May to June.

On 14 February 2018, the former student at the school, then 19, opened fire killing 14 students and three staff members before fleeing the scene in what remains the deadliest high school shooting in American history.
In October, the 23-year-old pleaded guilty to 17 counts of premeditated first-degree murder and 17 counts of attempted first-degree murder.
The trial will now decide if he is sentenced to death or life without the possibility of parole. Jurors must agree unanimously to the death penalty.

Elizabeth Warren slammed House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy on Sunday as the fallout continues over leaked audio reported by The New York Times in which Mr McCarthy is heard saying that he believed Donald Trump should resign after the attack on the US Capitol.
Speaking on CNN’s State of the Union, she held nothing back against the California congressman whom she said had openly lied to his own constituents and the nation about what he really felt about the January 6 riot.
“Kevin McCarthy is a liar and a traitor,” she told CNN’s Dana Bash.
His willingness to support Donald Trump publicly after he was heard on audio of a phone call with another member of Congress saying that he would tell the president to resign is a symptom of the “illness” that “pervades” the Republican Party, Ms Warren continued.
“They say one thing to the American public and another thing in private,” she said.
Her scathing remarks come as Mr McCarthy is attempting to weather a political firestorm caused by the publication of the audio, which directly contradicts what he and other Republicans have said on numerous occaissions. In one instance, Mr McCarthy is heard saying there could be bipartisan support for impeachment, which he would later refuse to support.
The second impeachment of Donald Trump would later clear the House with a few Republican defections.
Mr McCarthy’s spokesman lied to multiple news outlets about the content of the minority leader’s conversations with members just hours before the audio of the calls were made public, claiming to The Hill and The New York Times that Mr McCarthy had not, in fact, told people that he would urge Mr Trump to resign. The audio of Mr McCarthy saying exactly that was played Sunday on CNN’s State of the Union.
Donald Trump has reportedly reassured Mr McCarthy that he will not seek vengeance against the minority leader in a recent conversation but his assortment of allies have not extended that same courtesy. Steve Bannon and others have taken to social media to call out Mr McCarthy’s betrayal of their leader over the past several days.
Mr Trump’s support of Mr McCarthy would likely be a major factor determining whether the minority leader would win an election to Speaker of the House upon the GOP retaking the chamber in November, and as such the Republican congressman has maintained a working relationship with the ex-president since the latter left office.
His own top deputies are now refusing to defend him by name, as was the case with a statement from the office of his no. 2, Steve Scalise, and he faces uncertain political territory ahead as he seeks to weather the damage caused by the publication of his private turn against Mr Trump.
